Immortals vs. Breath of the Wild: Side by Side Comparison

تم نشره في 2020/12/ 1
We've said it before and we'll say it again: Immortals Fenyx Rising takes some heavy inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It's not a direct copy and paste, mind you, but there are quite a few similarities between the two.
In the video above, Max Blumenthall offers a side-by-side comparison of the two games to show off just how similar they both are. As you can see, both Immortals and Breath of the Wild feature similar mechanics when it comes to climbing, running, and gliding--especially in how both rely on stamina. Getting slow-time on a perfect dodge, taming horses, and unlocking new pieces of the map and fast travel points are pretty similar too.
But the comparison's extend beyond that. Both games, for instance, feature a similar systemic structure that you can bend to your whim to pull off elaborate tricks. As Max demonstrates, Immortals' Fenyx can use Herakles Strength to essentially fly, just as Breath of the Wild's Link can with Magnesis. As more fans get their hands on Immortals, more tricks like these will likely be discovered.
In GameSpot's Immortals Fenyx Rising review, Suriel Vazquez writes, "Immortals Fenyx Rising is far from perfect--but it is good. It stumbles frequently as it explores Greek myths through a new lens, its best features are borrowed, and for as large and fun as its world is, it always feels like you're on a guided tour instead of really exploring it. But even as it lives in the shadow of better games, its puzzles, combat, and open-world loop come together often enough for me to not only see it through for a few dozen hours, but also want to keep filling out its almighty checklist, even if it lead me by the nose most of the way through."

  • These comparisons keep coming! Immortals is super fun, but what do you guys think of the similarities?

    • I played both and I honestly think that BotW has more depth than Fenyx Rising.

    • Can you do this for indie games too like Craftopia, Oceanhorn, etc.?

    • It's not similar, one is rubbish and the other is superb, originality matters.

    • I honestly do think they kinda just made a less interesting BOTW

    • @Ivelios Xilosient Bro, I’m tellin you! I have played that game so many times, went back to it again and again. One of the best worlds to be in.

  • Sorry chief I think it’s a copy but no disrespect

  • I'm assuming this Fenyx footage is on a platform other than Switch. Would have been good to see the compared on the same platform. Switch graphics aren't that clean for Fenyx.

  • Difference is that BOTW doesn't hold your hand and won't place markers all over your map, even once you reveal a map section. It feels like you're actually exploring a world while any Ubisoft game released within the past 10 years feels like everything you do is part of some checklist.

  • but we all need to know that botw inspired a lot of other games like genshin impact and this one

  • THATS!!! ORIGINAL...sarcasm..

  • does it have the same elements and materials system?

  • Fenyx was a lot more fun for me than botw was.

  • Ok, im getting Immortals right now it's better that a switch and Breath of the wild.

  • Waiting botw2

  • Uhh zelda is still best

  • I love zelda

  • It may look like BoTW on a surface level but Immortals is a whole different beast when you play it tbh. Much more of a focus on platforming and combat

    • Yeah the feeling of the game is totally different it took a while to get used to fenyx after Zelda but I did...the controls, gliding, and climbing are way tighter on botw . I guess Nintendo had 35 years to figure out fun controls.

  • Controversial comment : I didn't like BotW.

  • I cannot understand an exact clone. Even just adding one single major twist would make it feel like less of a knockoff. Imagine BotW but with a few of the attack combos you get from an action game like Devil May Cry or something, where pausing at the right time even changes up your attacks. Or maybe trying to go the opposite, and making the combat slower, and more timing based, like a Souls game. I don't know, something to at least vaguely mash the gente up with something else. Also, the visuals were just too much alike in some spots. Baffling coming from a AAA studio.

    • They are only alike on the surface. I've Played hundreds of hours of Zelda and dozens of hours of fenyx now, and they are nothing alike.

  • Please stop these hate comments against immortals. When botw was released, i started to live this game! It‘s the best game and a milestone in the game-world. And now 3 and a half year later someone offers you a game with new story, new open world, new puzzles and new combat abilities. AND YOU ARE REFUSING IT?! JUST BECAUSE IT’S TOO SIMILAR?! Just explore and enjoy a new botw genre game!

    • it's worse than botw though, by a country mile. It's just an AC with a skin, that's how lazy a game it is.

  • It's a testament to how good botw is that these other companies are copying it

  • Nintendo : we will make botw 2! ubisoft: fine i do it myself!

  • kinda like Zelda II and Battle of Olympus

  • Zelda breath of te wild

  • They used so many elements from botw but also its very similar to origins and odyssey. I say immortals looks nicer and funner

  • Honestly I like immortal fenyx rising more cause char customization a big plus and the story is fun and funny at times Zelda while it may be great and all the story still bland so to speak

    • What i like to most about fenyx is that the weapons dont break after 2-3 swings!

  • There's a difference between taking inspiration from something and outright copying... BoTW certainly borrowed from Assassin's creed playbook for ideas but the gameplay feels very different. Immortals feels like a copy and paste job and by being available on multiple platforms it undermines Switch's profitability by offering a clone of their console's best game.

  • IFR > BOTW .. unabreakable weapons, stamina reload whenever, summon horse instantly... Nintendo better step up their game..

  • I like good copies. It's better to have a good copie than a bad new game.

  • Did I not catch up on Ubisoft being bought by China?

  • ok genshin impact im sorry for calling u plagiarism this one is

  • Idk man, i only play the game with cute girl doing cute things

  • So do we call it The Legend of Fenyx Rising 'Breath of the Immortals??? hmmm....

  • Zelda botw, its just another feeling...

  • Well it's genshin impact is botw rip-off but with fenyx uprising.

  • clone game is bad , but for pc is good .

  • First, play before coment. Gamespot just show us a part of game, not all game. For all people that says is a plagiarism, they have no idea what is the story of Inmortals (and they won't even have played the Zelda or even have finished). And of course i played all Breath of the wild in Switch and i am really happy that other games take inspiration, so i want so much to play Inmortals Fenix Rising.

  • I’m so confused how devs can get away with this kinda stuff. Blatant rip offs of other games.

  • plagiarism be like:

  • I have never seen immortals before. Is this an old game or new.? I played zelda for years and years and didn't think there was another game like it. Zelda is my all time favourite game and put many many hours in to it. I can not wait for BOTW2 👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • It sure lives up to its name of a Poor Man's Breath of the the Wild.

  • It's like the knock off you find in the Sears basement.

  • Bruyhh its the same game thats why i sold rhe shit out of my switch

  • immortals fenyx rising has weapons that are not made out of paper mache it wins lol. F*$k your padding Nintendo.

  • How come no one is saying how much better immortals looks and plays on ps5 etc. I grew up with and love zelda but I am 15 hrs into immortals and really enjoying it. A huge and beautiful open world with so much to offer and I love the greek mythology angle too. I just wanna love both games for what they are...fun and enjoyable 😎👍😊👏🔥❤

  • Me convencí, ahora me compró el juego !!! Ya que jugué mucho al ZBOTW

  • Hmm . Ive you dont own a switch and like a zelda feel. Buy this game. got it myself played it both. Not disapointed.

  • Western tabloid: If its not China it ain't copying

  • So, what's the genre name. Breath-like ?

  • Immortals: hey can i copy ur homework Botw: sure, make sure ure not doing better than me tho Immortals: got it

  • 2020 is the year of the zelda clones... 😅 First Genshin, now Immortal... But at least Zelda fans have something to play until Botw 2 releases ^^

    • @iHX If you played zelda you can also play genshin. from the controls to the worlddesign... It's almost 1:1 the same. It has of course it's own unique features but so does Immortals and Windbound. If these games didn't have them Nintendo could sue them xD

    • typical chinese games....

    • @Justin Jossart Yeah, Genshin is just a Gacha, just like all mobile games.... Developed to either, rip money from you, or make you spend unbelievable amounts of time to progress.

    • @iHX genshin is a scam

    • geshin is completely different it just looks similar

  • I don't think these side by side surface level comparisons amount to anything significant, this is kinda like how genshin was compared to botw. The reason botw is one of the best game of all time, atleast in my opinion, is that you can play that game for what you think an hour later to realise that you have been playing for 4hrs. Its a game you can only judge after you have played it. You do things in-game because you want to do them instead of the game telling you to do it. And I would say the closest comparison to botw is morrowind.

  • Ok, genshin impact maybe a ripoff of zelda but....this Game Is not ITS BETTER THAN ZELDA

  • Except Fenyx doesn't have that annoying-ass breaking weapons inventory management bs that made me put down BotW 2 hours in.

  • Ubisoft stealing from Nintendo who stole from Ubisoft.

  • Immortals being inspired by BOTW is not a surprise TBH. But the comparison makes no sense on a lot of topics. - Arrow distractions: It's far from being a Zelda Innovation... It's here in every game that has stealth mecanics, AC included since ages. - Parry/Dodge/Aerial Slow mo: Same here... The fight is really different (and I played both) and nobody seems to want to highlight that. Even in Ubisoft, those were in AC games since at least Origins maybe more. - Map Reveal: Come on... We're talking about Ubi here, this is their trademark. Even Nintendo said they were inspired a lot by Far Cry... - I've also seen some comparison talking about the Minotaur and cyclops as stolen from Zelda... It's going too far. I get that it's look like Zelda, but when you play it's not the same game. And even if it was... It's like people should have stop doing platformers because Nintendo did Mario or stop doing FPS cause Doom was already made. The only important point is "is it fun to play? Does it brings its own ideas?".

  • Immortals have more beautiful graphics and better FPS

  • Fun fact - Eagle Vision was first brought in by Ubisoft which was later copied by Batman and Shadow of Mordor and many other games. No one called it rip off then, why call it now? Assassin Creed was the game which first brought wall climbing with parkour, every other game had clunky climb mechanism. Every company takes some good part of some game and makes it their own. Soon we will see No NPC games like Watch Dogs Legion, you can be whoever you want and play as whoever you like. Ubisoft saw an oppurtunity that BOTW was exclusive, so it made a game which is available in all play type, people should be thankful instead of calling it a ripoff.

  • First is Genshin Impact, now this. Lol. They are running out of original ideas. They over exceed the graphics but one thing stays as a fact, they are cheap knock off of the original. Sad to say. But well, who am I to say.

  • This was more Journalism than the main stream media has done in 30 years. Impressive.

  • This is like everyone can have breath of the wild experience

  • No se han "inspirado" como decían, es un copia-pega con filtro de Fornite! Menudo descarado!!!

  • Botw is slowly making it's own genre

    • yeah, i feel that we will continue to see new BOTW-like games !

    • But now is a thing, like Metroidvania

    • Being a physics sandbox open world game? Because that existed long before BoTW.

  • No one defend this because it's not free and no waifu

  • At least your weapon doesnt break 283764664838384884 times.

  • This is sickening. Just gross.

  • At least when Genshin Impact did it they did it in their own way and for free.

    • Cries in gatcha

    • @Heargrove probably the hate Ubisoft bit, although out of most of their games I'd still be down to try this compared to their other stuff only because it's ripping off from botw. I watched that gamespot video on which is better and it seems like a not as good botw with standard Ubisoft busy work thrown in so im not gonna try it since it's 60$. Which is why it tried Genshin which is free.

    • @Dess Have you tried the game to call it a rip off? Or is it just that you hate Ubisoft?

    • @Heargrove I don't really care for Genshin either, all im saying is Genshin you can play for free while this is a 60$ rip off of zelda from none other than crap shoot Ubisoft

    • You didn't try the game, just watching comparisons that do not highlight differences. Genshin didn't do it for free they're making way more than Ubi probably will by using Gatcha mechanics and an aggressive MTX. I've tried the three games, besides having a colored art style and gliding, the three games felt different to me. Both had advantages and flaws. I enjoy the systemic approach of Zelda more, I enjoy Immortals"s fight more, I really don't like genshin :D.

  • Botw looks better has better physix and art

  • Definitely buying it.

  • I hate to say it but Fenyx looks better.

    • The animations look so lifeless in fenyx tbh

  • The way these comparisons keep coming out, I'll just keep playing BOTW and catch this game on deep discount in a few months.

  • Getting the strength of breath of the wild, making it a high fps high res next gen game. I am not even mad.

  • I didn't like BOTW Bc of the breaking weapons... So this immortals game is perfect for me!

  • Such a big ripoff

  • Is this the Nintendo switch version? If yes damn that portable is powerful

  • Is that music from immortals ost?

  • I can't tell the difference, I'm just gonna get the one with the camera closer to the player

  • Zelda BOTW didn't even invent most of the things shown here..

  • To quote Shido “I’ll sue!” -Nintendo

  • So this confirms not only can ubisoft not make a good game, when they stray from their formula it's a carbon copy of another game.

  • that horse and deer animation looked dead af. look how realistic they are in botw

  • What surprised me is that this game does not have a cease and desist letter from nintendo on top of its gameplay

  • At least IFR is 60 fps

  • I don't like how far away the camera is in immortals

  • Fun fact: this game is available on Nintendo Switch.

  • I prefer the cell shading of the Zelda characters, they look like an animated comic. The Immortals characters look like a bad version of the Thunderbirds puppets, they're creepy.

  • Some people just don't understand. I'm buying it BECAUSE it has similarities. But the story and gameplay etc are different enough to make it it's own game. It's not bad that BOTW basically created a new genre of games. Look at all the battle royale games and tell me that they're not similar... It's not bad if it's a good game guys

  • But still Zelda the best

  • Goooooooooooooo9ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo botw

  • Oof it seems everyone in this comment section has never played an assassins creed game before, or any other game besides botw for that matter... 😬😬😬

    • @アウェイクン・ビースト of course I can see that the game takes from botw and I feel like it's intentional otherwise they wouldn't have made it so obvious. All I'm saying is that everyone is taking these comparisons too far and worship botw like its a godsent, I really enjoyed botw and I personally have no problem with this game being similar but I can also see the differences too, so no it's not a complete clone. The combat and skills tree is definitely assassin's creed, the Phoenix bird that travels with you and fast travel points is also assassin's creed. You have a customizable character that can talk rather than a set silent protagonist, and the game is more lighthearted and funny with Zeus as an obnoxious narrator is what i notice right away. Not including the aspects of the game that is NOT exclusive or introduced by botw, If you actually play Immortals fenyx rising I'm sure you would notice the differences and little quirks of the game. (I only played the demo so far but I do actually like it) Really the only thing that that is directly taken from botw is stamina climbing and gliding and the magnesis power.

    • Not really I feel the same about this game as most of these people in the comments, and I own and have played every ac game, played over hundreds of different games from multiple different platforms from multiple different styles. Seems to me is you just never played botw. If you did, you'd have seen how the majority of immortals is just copy & paste, with a Greek story. Which is a shame, since from the general screen shots I saw on my xbox and playstation I thought it looked like an interesting game. But the more gameplay I saw of ppl playing it, the more I noticed how similar immortals was to botw. Now I'm happy for people who bought the immortals game who don't own a switch and could never play botw, because now they have a game that's similar. Obviously will never rise to the height of botw but still great for people who can't get a hold of botw. And I say it isn't as good, because of review differences between the two games.

  • Instead of being happy theres another amazing game out there like Breath of the Wild I'm instead gunna get angry at Ubisoft taking Nintendos framework idea. And why am I gunna write comments showing my displeasure??? Cause I have no life and Im a toolshed.

  • Looks like botw, but feels as close to it as Borderlands feels to Call of duty (as close as spyro to Mario 64). The protagonist talks, there's constant joking, combat is more hack and slash, like darksiders, the world is dense, the way you levitate things is snappy, its a second to up and fling objects at enemies WAY faster then Zelda...feels nothing like botw.

  • Breathe of the wild created open world survival games.

  • To be fair, Ubi did the towers first 🤣

  • Generic Zelda

  • Wow it’s the dollar general version.

  • They're literally same shit xd

  • breath of the wild is better

  • If there is a line between inspiration and copy, Ubisoft definitely crossed it.

    • Having played both (30 Hours in Immortals atm), BOTW has much more survival elements and open world interaction. Immortals is more of a platformer, and the combat is more like old school God of War.

    • Ive never played botw but personally the greek mythology makes it different enough for me. I really like the open world, exploration, gameplay etc but i adore the story and humor it has

  • Just y

  • We could also do this for games like Diablo and all the isometric slash and loot games to come after it. Or Warcraft and all the RTS games to come after it. Or WoW and the mmo clones that came after it. My question is when was this game announced vs when did botw come out?

  • Genshin Impact be like:

  • Well I mean the map exploration with the uncovering kinda started back with assassins creed. But yeah the rest of that wow. Also got a lot of Genshin Impact vibe too.
